The California Department of Health Care Services (the State agency) made Medicaid payments to providers for claims with dates of service after beneficiaries' deaths. Specifically, the State agency paid a total of $273,000 ($137,000 Federal share) for 1,205 fee-for-service claims for 35 deceased Medicaid beneficiaries.
