Medicare Compliance Review of Tulane Medical Center of New Orleans for Calendar Years 2010 and 2011

Tulane Medical Center of New Orleans (the Hospital) (operating in Louisiana) complied with Medicare billing requirements for 64 of the 125 inpatient and outpatient claims we reviewed. However, the Hospital did not fully comply with Medicare billing requirements for the remaining 61 claims, resulting in overpayments of $524,000 for calendar years 2010 and 2011. These errors occurred primarily because the Hospital did not have adequate controls to prevent incorrect billing of Medicare claims in the selected risk areas that contained errors.
