Medicare Compliance Review of St. Joseph Regional Health Center for Calendar Years 2009 and 2010

St. Joseph Regional Health Center (the Hospital) (operating in Texas) complied with Medicare billing requirements for 110 of the 242 inpatient and outpatient claims we reviewed. However, the Hospital did not fully comply with Medicare billing requirements for the remaining 132 claims, resulting in overpayments of $639,000 for calendar years 2009 and 2010. These overpayments occurred primarily because the Hospital did not have adequate controls to prevent incorrect billing of Medicare claims.
