Medicare Compliance Review of Morton Hospital for Calendar Years 2010 and 2011

Morton Hospital (Morton) (operating in Taunton, Massachusetts) complied with Medicare billing requirements for 43 of the 221 inpatient and outpatient claims we reviewed. However, Morton did not fully comply with Medicare billing requirements for the remaining 178 claims, resulting in overpayments of approximately $548,000 for calendar years 2009, 2010 and 2011. Overpayments occurred primarily because Morton did not have adequate controls to prevent incorrect billing of Medicare claims within the selected risk areas that contained errors.
