Medicare Compliance Review of Kent County Hospital for Calendar Years 2009 and 2010

Kent County Hospital (the Hospital), located in Warwick, Rhode Island, complied with Medicare billing requirements for 155 of the 171 claims we reviewed. However, the Hospital did not fully comply with Medicare billing requirements for the remaining 16 claims, resulting in overpayments totaling $27,000. These overpayments occurred primarily because the Hospital did not have adequate controls to prevent the incorrect billing of Medicare claims and did not fully understand Medicare billing requirements.
