Medicare Compliance Review of JFK Medical Center for Calendar Years 2009 and 2010

JFK Medical Center (the Hospital), located in Atlantis, Florida, complied with Medicare billing requirements for the majority of the claims we reviewed. However, the Hospital did not fully comply with Medicare billing requirements for 70 inpatient claims resulting in overpayments of $294,000. Based on our random sample results, we estimated that the Hospital received overpayments of about $4.4 million for calendar years 2009 and 2010. These overpayments occurred primarily because the Hospital did not have adequate controls to prevent incorrect billing of these Medicare claims.
