Medicare Compliance Review of Christiana Care Health System for Calendar Years 2008 Through 2010

Christiana Care Health System (the Hospital), located in Newark, Delaware, complied with Medicare billing requirements for 161 of the 281 inpatient and outpatient claims we reviewed. However, the Hospital did not fully comply with Medicare billing requirements for the remaining 120 claims, resulting in net overpayments totaling $641,000 for calendar years 2008 through 2010. These overpayments occurred because the Hospital did not have adequate controls over some areas to prevent incorrect billing of Medicare claims or because of human error.
