University Physicians of Brooklyn Agreed to Pay $455,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Submitting Claims for Incident-to Services Not Covered
After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, University Physicians of Brooklyn, Inc. (UPB), Brooklyn, New York, agreed to pay $455,408.16 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that UPB submitted claims for services provided by nurse practitioners (NPs) in the office setting, which were billed as ōincident-toö the services of physicians employed by UPB. The services did not satisfy incident-to billing requirements because the NPs providing the services were not employed by, or under contract with, UPB.
