University Medical Center Agreed to Pay $437,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Paying Remuneration to a Physician in the Form of Excess Compensation for Services

After they self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Lubbock County Hospital District d/b/a UMC Health System and d/b/a University Medical Center (UMC) and UMC Physicians, Texas, agreed to pay $437,950.50 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law provisions applicable to kickbacks. OIG alleged that UMC Physicians paid remuneration to a physician in the form of excess compensation for neurosurgery services. Additionally, OIG contended that UMC paid remuneration to UMC Physicians in the form of excessive compensation for neurosurgery services performed by the physician.
