Swedish Medical Center and Swedish Medical Group Agreed to Pay $10 Million for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Submitting Claims for Services Provided for in Clinical Research Studies

After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Swedish Health Services d/b/a Swedish Medical Center and Swedish Medical Group (Swedish), Seattle, Washington, agreed to pay $10,043,555.40 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that Swedish submitted claims to Federal health care programs for items and services provided in inpatient and outpatient focused clinical research studies that should have been paid for by the research study sponsor or provided free to the research participant.
