Summit Healthcare Association Agreed to Pay $2.8 Million for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Paying and Receiving Improper Remuneration in the Form of Excessive Rental Fees, Excessive Compensation, and Free Staffing Services

After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Summit Healthcare Association (Summit), Show Low, Arizona, agreed to pay $2,831,733 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that Summit: (1) pursuant to a lease agreement paid remuneration to a physician in the form of excessive rental fees; (2) made excessive compensation payments to an oncologist that were outside the scope of the oncologist's employment; and (3) received free staffing services from two local hospices.
