Saint Peter’s University Hospital and New Brunswick Cardiac Cath Lab Agreed to Pay $3 Million for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Paying Remuneration in the Form of Lease Payments Made on a Per-Procedure Basis

After they self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Saint Peter’s University Hospital (Saint Peter’s) and New Brunswick Cardiac Cath Lab, LLC (NBCC), New Jersey, agreed to pay $3,040,205.37 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law including provisions applicable to physician self-referrals and kickbacks. OIG alleged that Saint Peter’s paid remuneration to NBCC in the form of lease payments made on a per-procedure basis, from which NBCC paid its physician investors.
