Naimetulla Ahmed Syed, MD Agreed to Be Excluded for 20 Years for Allegedly Prescribing Medically Unnecessary Drugs and Related False Claims
On December 12, 2024, in connection with the resolution of his False Claims Act and Controlled Substance Act liability, Naimetulla Ahmed Syed, M.D. (Syed), Connecticut, agreed to be excluded under 42 U.S.C. 1320a-7(b)(7) for 20 years. The investigation revealed and OIG alleged that Syed: (1) issued medically unnecessary prescriptions, including controlled substance prescriptions, for which Syed caused false claims to be submitted by a pharmacy to Medicare and Medicaid for those medically unnecessary prescriptions; and (2) billed Medicare and Medicaid for medically unnecessary office visits related to the medically unnecessary prescriptions.
