MUSC Physicians Agreed to Pay $225,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Submitting Claims for Psychotherapy that Were Not Provided as Claimed

On July 9, 2025, University Medical Associates of the Medical University of South Carolina d/b/a MUSC Physicians (MUSC Physicians), Charleston, South Carolina, agreed to pay $225,113.29 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that MUSC Physicians submitted claims for telehealth psychotherapy services for longer psychotherapy sessions than were provided.
