Lee Health and Cape Coral Hospital Agreed to Pay $12.7 Million for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Submitting Claims for Services that Did Not Meet Coverage Criteria

After they self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Lee Memorial Health System d/b/a Lee Health (Lee Health) and Cape Memorial Hospital, Inc. d/b/a Cape Coral Hospital (Cape Coral Hospital), Florida, agreed to pay $12,721,885.58 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that Lee Health and Cape Coral Hospital submitted claims for certain professional and technical pain management procedures and evaluation and management services performed by two independent contractor physicians at Lee Health and Cape Coral Hospital facilities that did not meet Federal health care program coverage criteria.
