After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Hospice of Limestone County, Incorporated (HOL), Alabama, agreed to pay $500,000 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that HOL submitted claims to Medicare for hospice services that lacked recertifications of terminal illness, which are required by Medicare in order to bill for hospice services.
