After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Essex County Hospital Center (ECHC), New Jersey, agreed to pay $20,000 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that ECHC submitted claims to Medicare for evaluation and management visits under CPT 99214 for services that had not provided or that should have been billed under a lower CPT code.
