Dr. Evan Kardon Agreed to Pay $210,000 and Be Excluded for 10 Years for Allegedly Receiving Remuneration in Exchange for Ordering Durable Medical Equipment and Genetic Tests
On January 12, 2024, Evan P. Kardon, M.D., Raleigh, North Carolina, entered into a settlement agreement with OIG in which he agreed to pay $210,862.40 and be excluded from participation in all Federal health care programs for 10 years. The settlement agreement resolves allegations that Dr. Kardon solicited and received remuneration from various telemedicine and staffing companies in the form of monetary payments related to purported telemedicine consultations in exchange for ordering medically unnecessary durable medical equipment and genetic testing for Medicare beneficiaries with whom he had no physician-patient relationship and never examined.
