Diagnostic Imaging and Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center Agreed to Pay $52,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Submitting Claims for Medically Unnecessary MRIs
After they self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Diagnostic Imaging, Inc. (DI), and Doctors Hospital, Inc., d/b/a Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center (Luminis), Maryland, agreed to pay $52,227.24 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that DI submitted, and Luminis caused to be submitted, claims to Federal health care programs for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies ordered by Luminis, and performed by DI, for individuals discharged from Luminis’ emergency department when the MRI studies were not medically reasonable or necessary.
