Bridgeport Hospital and Northeast Medical Group Agreed to Pay $10.7 Million for Allegedly Paying Remuneration in the Form of Medical Director Services, Management Services, Physician Assistant Services, and Free Staff
After they self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Bridgeport Hospital and Northeast Medical Group, Inc. (NMG), Connecticut, agreed to pay $10,783,559.73 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that Bridgeport Hospital paid remuneration to a physician group in the form of payment for medical director services that were unnecessary, excessive, not provided, or were not commercially reasonable. OIG further alleged that Bridgeport Hospital and NMG paid remuneration to the physician group for management services, physician assistant supervision services, and physician assistant management services that were not commercially reasonable or were not provided. OIG also alleged that Bridgeport Hospital and NMG provided hospital-employed physician assistant staff to the physician group at no charge to perform surgical post-operative visits on behalf of the physician group.
