Baylor College of Medicine Agreed to Pay $622,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Paying for Certain Technical Components of Services Related to Referrals by Certain Physicians and Physician Practices
After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Baylor College of Medicine (Baylor), Texas, agreed to pay $622,564.50 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that Baylor paid remuneration to physicians and physician practices (“Physician Referral Sources”) in the form of payments for pre-analytic phase services (“the Technical component”) on surgical specimens referred by the Physician Referral Sources, where the Physician Referral Sources did not perform the technical component or provide any compensable items or services to Baylor.
