AMITA Health Mercy Medical Center and AMITA Health Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center Agreed to Pay $6.2 Million for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Submitting Claims for Medically Unnecessary Services

After they self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Presence Central and Suburban Hospitals Network d/b/a AMITA Health Mercy Medical Center and Presence Chicago Hospitals Network d/b/a AMITA Health Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center (collectively, “AMITA”), Illinois, agreed to pay $6,232,195.50 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that AMITA submitted claims to Medicare Part A for inpatient psychiatric admissions that were not medically necessary.
