OBJECTIVE
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) awarded a cooperative agreement to administer the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, commonly known as the 988 Lifeline, the nationwide, easy-to-remember three-digit dialing code. This cooperative agreement, funded through SAMHSA’s Projects of Regional and National Significance, significantly increased the amount of Federal funding received by the 988 Lifeline administrator. Rapid growth in Federal funding can create financial management challenges, elevate the risk of noncompliance with Federal requirements, and lead to inefficiencies and delays in meeting programmatic objectives. This audit will assess whether the 988 Lifeline administrator’s financial management system complies with Federal requirements.
