Red Rocks Radiation and Oncology, Alliance HealthCare Services, and Dr. Kevin Schewe Agreed to Pay $754,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Submitting False Claims for Radiation and Oncology Services

After they self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Red Rocks Radiation and Oncology, LLC, Alliance HealthCare Services, Inc., and Kevin L. Schewe, M.D. (collectively, “Red Rocks”), Colorado, agreed to pay $754,621.48 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that Red Rocks submitted claims for certain radiation and oncology services that: used incorrect CPT codes; used incorrect dates of service; had incomplete documentation; were not rendered; were unbundled; lacked documentation to support necessity of the services; and had no order supporting the service. The improper claims involve 25 different CPT codes, and encompass radiation therapy planning and simulation services, also known as “physics and dosimetry”, as well as evaluation and management services provided to patients undergoing radiation therapy.
