Missouri Healthcare System Agreed to Pay $619,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Submitting Claims for Services that Failed to Meet the Standard of Care or Were Medically Unnecessary
After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Hannibal Regional Healthcare System, Inc. (HRHS), Missouri, agreed to pay $619,736.61 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that HRHS submitted claims to Federal health care programs for surgical procedures performed by a physician with privileges at HRHS’s facility involving the implantation of biventricular and dual-chamber pacemakers that failed to meet the standard of care and/or were medically unnecessary.
