Mary Washington Hospital Agreed to Pay $50,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Paying Remuneration to a Medical Practice in the Form of Unrecouped Funds

After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Mary Washington Hospital, Inc. (MWH), Virginia, agreed to pay $50,000 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law provisions applicable to physician self-referrals and kickbacks. OIG alleged that MWH paid remuneration to a medical practice by not recouping certain amounts it paid to a physician, through the medical practice, pursuant to a physician recruitment arrangement.
