Henry Ford St. John Hospital and Henry Ford Warren Hospital Agreed to Pay $5.3 Million for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Submitting Claims for Medically Unnecessary Procedures and Paying Improper Remuneration

After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Henry Ford Health St. John Hospital d/b/a Henry Ford St. John Hospital and Henry Ford Health Macomb Oakland Hospital d/b/a Henry Ford Warren Hospital (collectively, “Henry Ford”), with locations in Detroit and Warren, Michigan respectively, agreed to pay $5,303,881.50 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that Henry Ford submitted claims for certain surgical procedures performed by a physician that were medically unnecessary. OIG also alleged that Henry Ford paid improper remuneration to the physician in the form of bonus payments that corresponded to the surgical procedures.
