Gary Lee Smith, Sr, MD Agreed to Be Excluded for 10 Years for Medically Unnecessary Prescriptions
On May 25, 2021, Gary Lee Smith, Sr, MD (Dr. Smith), Trion, Georgia, agreed to be excluded under 42 U.S.C. 1320a-7(b)(7) for 10 years. The investigation revealed and OIG alleged that Dr. Smith caused the submission of false claims to Medicare and Medicaid for prescriptions of Schedule II controlled substances that were not medically necessary.
