Eugene Saltzberg, MD Agreed to Pay $230,000 and Be Excluded for 20 Years for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Receiving Remuneration in Exchange for Ordering Durable Medical Equipment and Genetic Tests

On May 11, 2023, Eugene E. Saltzberg, MD, Highland Park, Illinois, entered into a settlement agreement with OIG in which he agreed to pay $230,000 and be excluded from participation in all Federal health care programs for 20 years. The settlement agreement resolves allegations that Dr. Saltzberg solicited and received remuneration from a telemedicine company in the form of monetary payments related to purported telemedicine and diagnostic consultations in exchange for ordering and prescribing medically unnecessary durable medical equipment and genetic testing for Medicare beneficiaries with whom he had no physician-patient relationship and never examined. OIG’s Office of Investigations and Office of Counsel to the Inspector General, represented by Senior Counsel David Traskey with the assistance of Chief Investigator Amber Mahmood, collaborated to achieve this resolution.
