Duckwater Shoshone Tribe Agreed to Pay $24,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Submitting Unallowable Expenditures to IHS Grants

After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Duckwater Shoshone Tribe (Duckwater), Nevada, agreed to pay $25,884.29 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that Duckwater submitted false and unallowable claims to the Indian Health Service (IHS) Tribal Self Governance Fund and to the IHS Special Diabetes Program for Indians. OIG alleged these claims were unallowable because the funds were diverted to personal use, including personal travel, entertainment, and personal gifts.
