Christopher Vendryes, MD Agreed to Pay $264,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Receiving Renumeration in Exchange for Prescribing Subsys

On January 19, 2022, Christopher G. Vendryes, MD, Miami Shores, Florida, entered into a $264,727.56 settlement agreement with OIG. The settlement agreement resolves allegations Dr. Vendryes received remuneration from Insys Therapeutics, Inc. in the form of speaker fees, consulting fees, food and beverage payments, and travel and lodging payments. In exchange for the remuneration, Dr. Vendryes prescribed Insys Therapeutics, Inc.’s fentanyl spray, Subsys, to his patients and the Medicare Part D Program paid for those prescriptions. OIG’s Office of Investigations and Office of Counsel to the Inspector General, represented by Senior Counsels Katie Fink and Joan Matlack with the assistance of Program Analyst Mariel Filtz, collaborated to achieve this resolution.
