Center for Vascular Medicine Agreed to Pay $107,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Paying Remuneration in the Form of Referral Based Compensation

After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Center for Vascular Medicine, LLC (CVM), with multiple locations in Maryland, Virginia, and New Jersey, agreed to pay $107,461.50 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that CVM paid remuneration to a practice management company, which was owned in part by a physician who referred patients to CVM. Specifically, OIG alleged that CVM paid the practice management company a free based on a percentage of net patient revenue, the physician referred patients to CVM, and the physician received compensation from the practice management company based in part on his referrals to CVM.
