St. Agnes Hospital Agreed to Pay $69,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Paying Remuneration in the Form of Free Office Space and Clinical Services and Submitted False Claims for Patients in Clinical Research Programs
After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, St. Agnes Health Care, Inc. d/b/a St. Agnes Hospital (St. Agnes), Maryland, agreed to pay $69,627.15 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. OIG alleged that St. Agnes: (1) paid remuneration to a referring doctor in the form of free office space; (2) paid remuneration to a referring group practice in the form of certain clinical services (liver biopsies, imaging and other laboratory testing services) to patients who were enrolled in research studies through that group practice; and (3) submitted claims for services provided to patients who were in clinical research programs.
