Review of the Quarterly Medicaid Statement of Expenditures for the Medical Assistance Program in Colorado

Issued on  | Posted on  | Report number: A-07-11-02758

Report Materials

For the quarter ended March 31, 2009, the majority of the Medicaid costs that the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (State agency) claimed, which totaled approximately $827 million (approximately $487 million Federal share), was adequately supported by actual recorded expenditures. However, the State agency did not account for the collection of interest due or report $10,000 (Federal share) in drug rebate interest for that quarter. Under the provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the State of Colorado's Federal medical assistance percentage (FMAP) for Medicaid expenditures increased from 50.00 percent (its 2008 FMAP) to 58.78 percent for the quarter ended March 31, 2009.
