Grant Memorial Hospital Agreed to Pay $661,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Paying Remuneration to a Physician in the Form of Improper Bonuses

After it self-disclosed conduct to OIG, Grant Memorial Hospital (GMH), West Virginia, agreed to pay $661,386.57 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law provisions applicable to physician self-referrals and kickbacks. OIG alleged that GMH paid remuneration to a physician in the form of bonus payments that were neither consistent with the terms of the physician's employment agreement with GMH nor fair market value for the obstetrics and gynecology services the physician provided to GMH.
