Investigation Details

On September 14, 2016, Joel Fuentes was arrested in Texas by Customs and Border Patrol. He was indicted in September 2008 on charges of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and health care fraud.

Fuentes managed the day-to-day operations and was president of D&A Therapy Center, Corp. (D&A), based in Miami, Florida. Investigators believe that Fuentes, through D&A, falsely billed Medicare more than $3.5 million for infusion related prescription medications that were not prescribed by doctors or provided as claimed.

After an arrest warrant was issued in 2008, Fuentes fled the country and remained a fugitive until his arrest in 2016.

On March 24, 2017, Fuentes was sentenced to 2 years and 7 months in jail and ordered to pay over $2 million in restitution.
