Medicare Compliance Review of the Singing River Hospital for Calendar Years 2008 Through 2010

Executive Summary

Singing River Hospital (the Hospital), located in Pascagoula, Mississippi, complied with Medicare billing requirement for 177 of the 369 inpatient and outpatient claims we reviewed. However, the Hospital did not fully comply with Medicare billing requirements for the remaining 192 claims, resulting in overpayments totaling $516,000 for calendar years 2008 through 2010. Overpayments occurred primarily because the Hospital did not have adequate controls to prevent incorrect billing of Medicare claims and did not fully understand the Medicare billing requirements.
